Hello! It's Alyssa Lopez here!
My
Story
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, so I am an Austinite at heart. I graduated summer of 2022 from the University of Texas at San Antonio. My hobbies include but are not limited to reading, writing, painting, soul cycling, hiking, and taking my Havanese dog on a long walk. I am a coffee lover through and through. My passion for reading and writing led to my choice of major in English. Through my courses at UTSA and personal experiences, I found other passions for social issues such as mental health, plastic pollution, and climate change. I know my interests will only continue to grow. I published an article in 2017 for the Austin community college newspaper, Accent, and the UTSA independent student newspaper, The Paisano, in 2020 with the underlining discussions on mental health.
At a young age, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. Because of this diagnosis, I had to learn how my brain would take and hold information. I had to put in extra effort to make my learning purposeful and easier to connect to new information in a way I understood. I found my strength within dyslexia, allowing me to push beyond the limits I had set for myself. I look to find new ways to grow every day. I am not afraid to ask questions, accept constructive criticism to help me grow, and give encouragement and support to all around me. If and when I experience failure, I find a way to get back up and decide to try harder. I pride myself on bringing this and much more to every position I hold.
